Happy Hour and Partying at Opera Bay

Opera Bay is a landmark club in Buenos Aires, thanks to its interesting architecture (the place is like a copycat Sydney Opera House). It is located on Puerto Madero right on the water, with a view of the docks.

Wednesday night is Happy Hour, and the crowd gets thick later in the evening, so make sure you make it there in time for half off drinks. It is a common stop for many PorteñoOpera bay buenos aires businessmen on their way home from work, so if you want to show off how great you look in a suit, this is the night for you to hit Opera Bay.

The place is really jumping on Friday and Saturday nights as well… parties get going late in BA… we’re talking 2:30 – 3:00 in the morning for Opera Bay. It is considered a second-stop on a night out in BA, and is often the last stop before bed; many partiers don’t go home until 7 am.

At Opera Bay there are a number of different dance floors in different rooms, each playing a different kind of music: house, hip-hop, even oldies (as the kids call 80s rock), but no Latin music. The largest dance floor is located outside, and is half covered by a glass ceiling. It is made to look like an old-fashioned cruise ship.

The mix at Opera Bay of porteños and tourists is fairly heavy on the local side. This place is popular, and anyone looking to party hard finds themselves here.

Entrance to Opera Bay is about AR$30, and that includes one drink. Cocktails and mixed drinks are priced at about AR$15 and you can get a small bottle of beer (Quilmes, Stella Artois) for about AR$8.

To get there, you can take a taxi to Opera Bay (everyone knows it) or take the B line until it ends a few blocks from Puerto Madero. Turn left and walk until you arrive at Opera Bay, at the foot of Juan D. Perón, just across the canal bridge. You can’t miss it, it’s huge, and the music is blaring. You can also take any of the train lines to the Retiro Station (or the D subte line.)
