Economists Reveal Predictions for Argentina 2009

Economists are not expecting to see the same boom in 2009 that they have in recent years. In fact, most are predicting almost flat growth, ballooned inflation and climbing unemployment rates.

There are a variety of numbers floating around predicting the GDP expansion for 2009: a consulting firm from Buenos Aires predicts 2.5%, while others are more hopeful, targeting growth at 3.5 and 5%, and some fear the worst, announcing zero or negative expansion.

Congress recently approved Argentina’s new budget, which estimates 4% growth in 2009, inflation at 8% and 3.19 pesos to the US dollar.

Time will tell if the Argentina market is going to become a scary or a stable place for private investors over the next few years.
