Health and Wellness in Buenos Aires

Okay… now that I have shared with you my sweet tooth (see the previous entry on Sugar & Spice) it’s time you see my other side. The health and wellness aspect. After all, everything in moderation!

I am a firm believer in using alternative, holistic approaches to treating our bodies many ailments. That is why I was excited to come across Oleada, a project in the works thanks to Kara Bauer. Kara is a determined businesswoman who also happens to be certified in alternative medicine. She, along with two business partners are working to create what I believe will be the first “wellness center” in Argentina.

The center, called Oleada, will offer things typical to gyms and spas in the States and Europe, such as yoga, meditation, a salon, a spa, a tea bar, and restaurant serving an array of good (natural)  eats and of course, juices/smoothies, and a section completely dedicated to alternative medicine consultation and treatment. Holistic wellness products will also be available for purchase. Oleada is designed with the idea of total wellness, rejuvenating your body through proper care and nutrition.

Kara has been in Argentina for 2 years now, and prior to that she worked for 7 years in marketing in New York. She is pretty sure she knows what the people want, and I have to say, this is the kind of thing that if it catches on, which it has consistently in other countries, will spread like wildfire.

Oleada will be attached to a boutique hotel and its completion is scheduled for June 2009 on Humboldt in Palmero Hollywood.

Currently Oleada has started serving natural juices and light lunch dished on Saturday afternoons at their home office in Las Canitas. They are serving a variety of prototype May_news_2juices/wheat grass drinks, and asking for feedback from the community. Not only do they want input on what types of drinks are preferred, they also want to know exactly what customers are hoping to find in a holistic center.

To learn more about this exciting project you can visit their web-site here, or email info@oleada.com.ar for more information.

Juice is served at the Oleada Home office (which is also Kara’s apartment) from 12 pm – 5 pm every Saturday. The address is Baez 345, Piso 2, #9 in Las Canitas behind the Palmero Polo Fields. She asks that you email or call (15–6496–5131) ahead of time so they know how many to expect.
