Travel Within Argentina – Bus Routes and Flights

Argentina is a big country and sometimes getting from point A to point B can be a pretty big ordeal.

The most common way to travel around the country is by bus. For most Argentines buses present an economical, and comfortable way to traverse the country. The buses even have first class sections, with 180 degree reclining leather seats, for reasonable prices. Longer trips have cama or semi-cama options, which means bed or semi-ed, and are perfect for long, overnight trips. Don’t expect much in the way of service though; it is very hit or miss, although longer trips generally serve food and play a movie.

The quickest way to get from one side of the country to the other is by plane, however it is not the most economical. If time is your not on your side, then flying is the way to go. The main airline in Argentina is Aerolineas, but their prices are pretty high, especially for foreigners. They do have a special program where you can purchase an Visit Argentina Pass, which gets you discounts on flights from city to city. Even though Aerolineas is the big man on campus, they tend to run late and in my experience they are borderline incompetent.

With LAN, on the other hand, you can find decent prices, and the service is excellent. The only problem with LAN is they don’t offer as many flights as Aerolineas, so depending on what city you are flying into LAN might not be an option.
