This recently arrived in the Argentina Gringo’s inbox from a friend in Buenos Aires:
Hey Gringo! I don’t know if this info could fit on the Argentina Gringo but I was so amazed with this place that I wanted to share it with you.
On Sunday I visited the Spanish Art Museum Enrique Larreta. Enrique Larreta was an Argentinian writer and his house is now a museum. What captivated me was the fact that the house is from 1800s and it still has the original floors, furniture etc (it’s amazing; so much history!!!). Apart from that you can see lots of Spanish art that he collected throughout his life (also so very amazing, pieces from the 16th and 17th centuries). You can practically breathe in the history and it just makes you feel so insignificant.
Being at the Spanish Art Museum it literally feels like you are traveling through time. Entrance to the museum also gives you access to the garden, which is a gorgeous area with trees that are as old as the house. It is located in Belgrano, one one of the nicest places in Buenos Aires. It has a very nice residential area with great houses and also a very commercial side.
The Museum is in the middle of the city, right off a busy avenue which makes entering the museum even more crazy, because it instantly transports you out of modern day Buenos Aires t another world.
The Entrance fee is only $1 and it is a couple of blocks away from the subway or people can go there by taxi. (By the way, I do recommend using a “radio taxi” company and not the ones that are on the street, they are more reliable to me if I was a tourist).
The Museo de Arte Espanol Enrique Larreta (Spanish Art Museum Enrique Larreta) is located at Juramento 2291, Buenos Aires, Distrito Federal 1428. It is open from 2 pm 8 pm daily, closed on Tuesday.
