Public Telephones in Buenos Aires

In the center of Buenos Aires, on almost every block you will find public telephones, or pay phones. They are also found in malls, kiosks, restaurants and bars, as well as other public places.

To use a public telephone the minimum charge is 0.20 cents and 0.05, 0.10, 0.25, 0.50 and $1 coins are all accepted. You can also buy phone cars at kiosks and with from other telephone companies to use on the public phones instead of change.

Mark's Deli – New York Style Deli in Palmero Viejo

Mark’s Deli & Coffee House is perhaps Buenos Aires’ most successful attempt at a typical New York Deli, which makes it one of my favorite places to stop for some to grab a bite to eat and people watch.

In the morning I particularly like the muffins – they large, traditional muffins from my point of view, and the perfect accompaniment for my morning cup of coffee.

Mark’s Deli is located in the Palmero Viejo district, at El Salvador 4701 & Armenia, making it an ideal place for shoppers in this trendy district. It is open 8:30 am – 9:30 pm Monday to Saturday and 10:30 am to 9:00 pm Sundays and Holidays.

The joint opened in the summer of 2002, and Read more

Free Tours of Buenos Aires

While the rest of the world saw a 2% drop in tourism revenue in 2008, Argentina saw a modest 5% increase. Why? Well, as vacations to European hot-spots become out of the question, a Europeanesque town where the dollar still holds strong against the peso is the best solution, which brings us to Buenos Aires.

Buenos Aires and Argentina on a budget is completely possible. There are all different kinds of accommodations – hotels, hostels, dorm style hostels, apartahotels… the list goes on and on. Restaurants as well range all over the place, and even the smaller, traditional restaurants serve up the Argentine beef you’ve been craving.

Transportation in Mendoza

If you haven’t rented a vehicle for getting around Mendoza, then you are limited to the public transportation system of the city. Public transportation in Mendoza is made up of taxis (the most expensive, most convenient, and most comfortable), and two types of buses: city buses and trolleybuses.

The trolleybuses are more comfortable than the city buses, but they are slower and not as numerous as the city buses. They also do not cover as much ground as the city buses do; the city bus network is much more expansive. Trolley buses are also slightly cheaper than the city buses.

The bus terminal for non-city buses (the ones transiting to other parts of the country) is located to the east of the Mendoza Read more

All You Can Eat at Las Tinajas Buffet Restaurant in Mendoza

The variety of places to eat in Mendoza is pretty astounding – you can find practically anything you want between the many hotel restaurants, private restaurants, and small diners.

One of the more popular places to grab some grub at is Las Tinajas, an all-you-can-eat buffet restaurant. It is popular among tourists from other countries as well as Buenos Aires, serves of some of the most delicious meals in Mendoza.

Gourmet Pizza in Mendoza

If you are sick of steak (if that is even possible) or if you want to try steak on pizza, then head to the MOON resto-bar (restaurant bar) on Aristedes Villanueva and check out the gourmet pizzas that Dario is serving up.

Flavors range all over the place, and the creations he makes get raved about by even the most fanatical, “it’s not a pizza, it’s a pie!” New Yorkers. I am always a fan of chicken on pizza, so the BBQ Chicken, although a little more standard, is a good place to start. If you are into the seafood try a Chardonnay shrimp pizza, and if you are feeling brave then go for the pear and blue cheese combo… Read more

Tourist Information Center in Mendoza

If you are looking for some leaflets or brochures for tours in Mendoza (as if your hotel didn’t provide you with enough!), then visit the Tourist Information kiosk located at Av. San Martin and Garibalda.

The office is open daily from 9 am to 9 pm, and the staff are quite helpful… if you speak a little bit of Spanish that is. Oftentimes the people staffing the Tourist Information Center don’t speak English, which is pretty surprising considering what a large number of tourists to the area don’t speak Spanish, and the large number of Argentines in the tourism industry who do!

I think that all the ones who speak English have found higher paying jobs… but maybe that’s just Read more
