Sweet Dulce de Leche and Churros at Cafe Tortoni

Dulce de leche is practically everywhere you turn in Buenos Aires… I mean, they even offer a special Oreo that is filled with dulce de leche instead of the regular cream filling. If you really Cafe tortoniwant a sweet treat though, skip the Oreos and head to the famous Cafe Tortoni, known as the meeting point for some of the city’s greatest literary minds.

Cafe Tortoni offers a lot in the way of typical light food… but today we are focusing in on the sweet stuff. Dulce de leche, for those of you who don’t know, is basically caramel, but with milk mixed in (depending on which country and who is cooking, it varies, of course).

The must have for me at Cafe Tortoni is the churros served with the dulce de leche dip. Yummy. You may also want to give the alfajore a try, as it is a staple cookie in Argentina. It is a soft cookie with filling on the inside.

There are scores of other sweets to be tried at Cafe Tortoni… ice cream, cookies, sweet breads, you name it.

Cafe Tortoni is located on Av. de Mayo 825/29.
