Hidden Antique Clock Shop on Pasaje Rivarola

Hidden Antique Clock Shop on Pasaje Rivarola

A friend recently tipped me off to an interesting little shop on Pasaje Rivarola, a block that is only about 100 meters long and is home to only 2 French style buildings, one mirroring the opposite. It is on that street that you will find El Cementerio de los Relojes (Clock Cemetery).

The fantastic little clock shop houses some amazing time keeping pieces, and is a nice little charming store to browse through, even if you aren’t a collector,  it is a cool place to look around in.

The street is Pasaje Rivarola is located two blocks north of Av de Mayo. It is right between avenidas Mitre and Peron and between Uruguay and Talcahuano, tucked away.

Free Tours of Buenos Aires

While the rest of the world saw a 2% drop in tourism revenue in 2008, Argentina saw a modest 5% increase. Why? Well, as vacations to European hot-spots become out of the question, a Europeanesque town where the dollar still holds strong against the peso is the best solution, which brings us to Buenos Aires.

Buenos Aires and Argentina on a budget is completely possible. There are all different kinds of accommodations – hotels, hostels, dorm style hostels, apartahotels… the list goes on and on. Restaurants as well range all over the place, and even the smaller, traditional restaurants serve up the Argentine beef you’ve been craving.

Shopping in Mendoza

There is quite a bit of shopping to be done in Mendoza, and the local markets are often the biggest draw for tourists, but if you want to find up scale shopping, tax-free, check out the Mendoza Plaza and the Palmares Open Mall on Ruta Panamerica.

If you check out the Mendoza Plaza web-site you can learn about the tax-free shopping at the Plaza. The mall isn’t the best place to get your typical Argentine souvenirs, or handmade crafts or anything like that. (You will find them, but they will cost a fortune, and in the mall, unlike the market, you can’t barter the prices down.)

The shopping at Mendoza Plaza is good if you are in need of Read more

Palmero – High Fashion Shopping in Buenos Aires

Buenos Aires’ high fashion neighborhood is Palmero, hands down. This chic area is divided into the Viejo (old) district, the Chico (small) district and the Hollywood and Soho district and is teeming with the trendiest restaurants, cafes, bars and boutiques in all of Buenos Aires.

The shopping in Palmero is some of the best in all of Argentina, and highlights the best Argentine designers. The Hollywood and Soho districts are the fashion and design center of the neighborhood, while the other two districts are more residential.

The best way to find your way around Palmero is by using the special little neighborhood maps they sell on practically every corner. (Usually a map of Buenos Aires doesn’t give Read more

Sundays in San Telmo

Continuing on our exploration of Buenos Aires brings us to San Telmo, the oldest neighborhood in the city. San Telmo stands out as having some of the best preserved colonial structures in Argentina. Throughout the years the cobblestone streets have seen their fair share of tourists, but the cafés, tango parlors and antique shops that line them have managed to keep their original charm.

San Telmo is brought to life by the artists and dancers that frequent its streets. The main public square of Plaza Dorrego is a constant stream of pleasant traffic, and is also home to a semi-permanent antique fair and tango shows on Sundays.

Visitors can also stop by the Museo Histórico Read more

La Boca and the Caminito (The Mouth and the Way)

With a great majority of flights into Argentina landing in Buenos Aires, it is more than likely that you will spend some time in this fantastically European capital city. There is a lot to see and do in Buenos Aires, and the Argentina Gringo wants to make sure you don’t miss the highlights.

The neighborhood of La Boca, on the southern side of the city, is a great place to explore. It is full of colorful buildings and houses, as well as many excellent tango clubs and taverns/restaurants.
